          A tragic road accident on NH-143 near                  Rajamunda waterfall                                        Rourkela | Feb 28: A tragic road accident on NH-143 near Rajamunda Waterfall has claimed the life of a student of the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, while a girl student is battling for her life.

The mishap occurred near Rajamunda under Lahunipara police limits in Sundargarh district. According to sources, a group of 16 NIT Rourkela students were travelling on scooters to visit Rajamunda Waterfall when the accident took place near Samardari Chhak.

Reports suggest that a Hyva truck coming from the Rajamunda side allegedly rammed head-on into one of the scooters. The rider, identified as Kartiken (full details awaited), died on the spot due to the severe impact. The female student riding pillion sustained grievous injuries.

Other students immediately alerted police. Lahunipara police reached the scene, shifted the injured student to Lahunipara Medical for initial treatment, and later referred her to Rourkela for advanced care. Her condition is reported to be critical.

Police have seized the Hyva truck and the damaged scooter and have launched an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited.
